Essay #2: Reflective Letter
Dear Mom,
In my English 100 class we’ve been doing a lot of work that teaches us how to become better writers and things like that. Not all of it is just regular work; we do cool stuff like make our own websites. On the website we blog about things we done in class and just things we done throughout the week. We also have a lot of fun talks in class too that gets the whole class interacting with each other. Like the first week of class we all told each other a secret about ourselves that people didn’t really know, that kind of broke the ice between everybody. The reading assignments that we had to do I think help in some ways. For one assignment we have to read writing process texts from three different authors and take things that they said in there writing and turn that into an interview as if we sat down with them and talked about writing. I think that help because the authors stated a lot of good things about becoming a good writer.
Another thing that we did that I think helped change my view on writing since the beginning of the semester was a video we watched called “The Cave: An Adaptation of Plato's Allegory in Clay”. One of our first assignments that we did was our Creative Nonfiction Essay, I think this was a cool writing because we did it on something that we actually did in that past month. I believe my writing was okay I only had one little problem that I was doing wrong in the essay which was writing in past tense when I was supposed to be writing as if it was happing right now. My overall view on writing has change since the start of the course, to me writing means if its fiction or nonfiction I feel like writing really has to come within. Like when I first started writing I was trying to do it with a lot of other things going on around me and I realized that I don’t write too good in that environment, so now when I write I’m usually alone and somewhere I can concentrate because that’s when I write the best. My only other problem when it comes to writing is my time management. I tent to procrastinate when I need to get things done; I’m working on that with myself as the class goes on. We are now halfway through the course and I think I’m doing okay with the class but I know I can do better. I’m going to keep you updated on everything and let you know how I’m doing.
Sincerely,
Brandon Wilkins
